I keep trying and keep trying to do this exercise but it never work on my hamstrings. I looked at the description in freetrainers but there was no picture. And a did not understand the descriotion itself. Will someone please give me some hints on how to do this exercise properly and effenciently. |

no problem.. this is truly one of the best exercise out there for hamstrings if done correctly.* First.. be carefull of our your lower back so start off with a light weight to get the proper form down. Stand straight- hold a bar and let it hang straight down and rest on your front thighs. Now.. looking straight or up.. bend at your waist as you lower the bar directly towards the ground parallel to your legs. Have a slight bend in the knees as you go down and slightly stick your buttocks out.. feel the tight stretch in your hamstrings. When you have reached the point where you really feel the strecth then squeeze you buttocks and slowly go back up in the same form that you went down.. really concentrate on your hamstrings. It is not necessary to go all the way up.. I go up only about 90% of the way as to keep the tension on the hamstrings.. Hope this help.. good luck .o0 Arnold 0o. |

try arching your back keeping shoulders back. I stand on a block to get a little extra stretch. stiff legg is my favorite for hamstrings. good luck |

Is this a deadlift machine? You put your weight on the end, and it works like a lever. You stand, straddling the lever, on the base, and grab the handle which is perpendicular to the lever. Then lift. I've seen some people on this, and they bend over to reach it, then lift it using only their arms, but it looks like it would work for doing deadlifts if you needed some support with the weight? lol Alorle, you are just too funny (o:I've personally never seen a dead lift machine, but I'm sure that it exists. Why not just ask the trainer at the gym? |

I gave up on this exercise , my low back always goes into a muscle spasm, even with light weight! I miss doing them. |

Yes, my hams are okay. They are still tight, but not painful. Of course, my LBW is tomorrow, so I may be crying again after that :). |

Does your home bench have a leg attachment? You can get the same type of hamstring work when you do leg curls. I hate doing them, but they work wonders for the hams and glutes. |

Ohhhhh Alorle, this is not for your hamstrings, but instead a very good exercise for your back (also called the T-bar rows -you can also find it under FT's exercise descriptions).To work the hamstrings efficiently you need to keep your legs straight. If you do this with the barbell as showed on the pic, you'll just hurt yourself so DON'T! |

Don't worry, I've left it alone lately. I started doing dumbell deadlifts instead, which really feel good by stretching out my hams. I know I need to add more weight to them, so that they get worked, but I'm enjoying the stretch right now :) |

oh my gosh thx for the description arnold, I can really feel it on my hamstring now, whislt b4 it was just on the lower back. One thing though? on the scale of 1-10 how dangerous is this exercise if done improperly, I think all this time Ive just been hurting my lower back with it..
