Even thought none on of your friends work out they can still help. Ask them and they might want to start lifting weights themselves!!

I also work out at home. I use the safety screws on the rods that prevent the weight plates from slipping off. Some people don't use it saying that this makes them apy extra attentoin that the bar is not tilted towards one side more , else the plate will start to roll off. This extremly dangerous. It is better to lift weight that you can take easily, obviously not too light , otherwise there will be no benefit. And then gradually increase the weights once your hans , sholders , etc are accustomed to lifting that amount of weight. This is whne you can go throught 10 reps of 12 without your arms becomming shaky. when the level of confidence increases then increase the weights gradually.
