Is it normal for one to be incredibly thirsty throughout the day after resistance training? I normally struggle to drink 6 glasses a day but after 2 sessions of resistance and cardio, I consumed over 10 glasses.

Is this because I'm new to it or will it continue?

Thanks!

What is your diet like and are you diabetic?

Not diabetic. I'm on weight watchers so watch what I eat. I consume over 1400 cals a day, at least 5 portions fruit and veg, no refined foods and no rubbish basically. I've recently made sure that I take in 2 tsp of oil daily and 2 portions of dairy.

I don't quite understand what's going on to be honest. I Would be grateful if you could shed any light on it based on your vast experience :D

I would really ask your doctor. Kind of impossible to have a solution on the internet.
1400 calories a day would be for a 90-95 lb person to maintain a healthy weight. May I ask your weight?

How old are you? I'm just doing a quick calculation.

I should add that I am on 20 points a day (weight watchers) and 1 point is equal to 70 cals. Veg is 0 points so I bulk up on this with every meal bar breakfast.

Thanks..

A quick calculation comes up with a basal metabolic rate of 1561 calories per day. This is what you need MINIMUM per day just to live (breath, lay around, etc.) If you are active, you need more than that. So, eat more, and you'll lose weight at a healthy pace. Add another 200 calories per day and you'll see some weight drop.

If you eat less than that, you'll drop the weight, but the body will eventually kick into starvation mode and start storing everything you eat as fat. Not what one wants.

Hope that helps!

It's weird to wrap your head around eating more will help you lose weight, but it's true!

Enjoy!

Thanks Tim, you were thinking the same what I was.

Rich toffee Bar,, If you wanted to maintain your present weight you would have to consume 2,460 calories based on an active lifestyle.with consuming 15 cal/per pound Since you want to reduce, try looking at 2130 calo per day based on 13 cal/pound. Check this after 2 weeks by seeing how your clothes fit and how you feel. If there is no change reduce to 12.
The simple answer to your question is you are starving and also semi dehydrating yourself which will eventually make you sick.
A healthy diet is the answer and eat right.

If you look at most packaging of products, they base their nutrient values on the 'average of 2000 cals' per day... some folks need less, some folks need more... if a person claims to need less than 2000, I usually raise an eyebrow and double check. No one should live on an extreme shortage.

Indeed, I've always associated losing weight with eating less and know that's where I have gone wrong in the past. I'll up the calorie intake to how much you have both recommended and will see how it goes for a couple of weeks.

Thanks again, very informative :P

Quoting from TimDay:

Hi TimDay,

I was interested in what you had to say. I'm a 45 year-old male, 5'11', 250 pounds. I googled my BMR and it's 1864. I do strength train 2-3 days a week (full body each time) and also walk 2-4 miles 3 days a week. How many calories should I consume a day for a pound or two weight loss a week? I would love to weigh 180 again, but 200 is probably more realistic.

Thanks for any help!
