Why is soda exactly unhealthy. If I want to gain muscle and become more muscular should I be drinking any sodas? I drink plenty of water, I'm just curious to whether drinking the occasional soda imposes any bad effects in my body?

Coke is used to clean blood off roads for wrecks....and clean the rust off of car batteries. So think about that

I think a lot of those claims are urban myths, but still... some sorta food for thought... anyhoo...here is the breakdown on Coke:

253g serving

0g of fat (don't be deceived)
30g of sugar...

Soda is made up fo corn syrup...ie simple carbs...that have a high chance of turning to fat....

I mean you can drink down a protein bar with soda directly after a workout...but even then I am sure you can find a healthier simple carbs drink with your protein....

Soda's bad...I blame Coca Cola for my 25% BF. Well ok...they didn't hold me at gunpoint...so I guess it's my fault. I essentially cut out all soda's and am drinking straight water now, maybe have a coke once every 2 or 3 weeks (at dinner or something), otherwise it's just straight water (unfiltered tap water if necessary).

Found this specific reason why at: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php/347

Largely because of the high sugar content. Soda pop is usually served at fast food restaurants that serve high fat foods.

When you drink your soda, the sugar activates the pancreas. The pancreas produces insulin, an enzyme needed for digestion, but insulin also makes the body store fat.

So, as your pancreas is going overboard from your soda, here comes the fatty fries and hamburger. Your body thinks it has to store that fat instead of burn it, because your body has more insulin than it needs for that meal.

One of my favorite stats to tell clients - change nothing esle but drink one can of coke a day, you will add 15 pounds of fat in a year.

It is pure sugar and very acidic.

My daughter did a science fair project, the goal of which was what would clean tarnish off of pennies the best. Guess what won? Coke.

I also had a co-worker whose uncle was an airline mechanic - he would empty a can of coke in the washing machine with his coveralls to degrease them.

If you want simple carbs - at least get some nutritional benefit from them, like oranges or apples , where you get fiber, vitamins and nutrients.
