In all the years I have lifeted weights, I never have done sisy squats before. They always looked to me like they didn't do anything. Holy CRAP was I wrong. I did my first set yesterday as part of my FT training. God! are my legs tired. I did 3 sets, and boy you can feel the muscle burn. I now know that Sissiy Squats are a great work out for the legs. :surprised:

Sissy squats are NOT for sissys! :surprised:

I totally know what you mean, mattawesome. Sissy squats are a lot more effective than they look. At least they are for some of us. I find they darn-near kill me every time. And I'm SO sore for 2 or 3 days after!

My FT buddy (you know who you are) was telling me that sissy squats didn't show up in his first 8-week FT program. I'm praying to the powers-that-be that he'll get lots of them in his next FT program!! :)

I think everyone should have to suffer through those squats!

Yep, sissy squats can be great! For instance a superset of leg extensions and sissy squats is a killer, especially after doing some heavy power leg work first like leg presses of squats.

I am still feeling the pain in my upper legs, not as bad, but those sissy squats do some good. It's the pain you get when that muscle hasn't been worked in a while, not an injury pain. The only thing now, I have to do them again this week.

So tell me this (humor me here) .. what to hold on to? I feel like a 'tard at the gym trying them, and am trying to figure out how I could do them at home... any suggestions?

:)

I hold on to a piece of tall equipment such as the vertical crunch bench - the one at my gym has a piece of tubing at a 45 degree angle between the main beam and the arm rest beam. Perfect height for me.
Anything like that will work. Possible part of a Smithe machine or a bar in a squat rack.

Okay - I'm having a blond moment - you mean something to hold on to at home? Sorry!
(Could have erased the first part and pretended to be smarter but everyone can have a chuckle at my silliness!)

At home I've used my kitchen countertop and part of my book shelf.

my 2-bits.
