Well to put on weight, you're bound to add some fat to your body. Eating fat doesn't make you fat, it is a matter of how many calories you take in. Use the nutrition guide on this site for help in gaining weight.
I generally eat an hour or 1.5 hours before I lift to make sure the food is digested. For post workout eating, most people eat 15-30 minutes after their workout. I generally eat a protein bar and an apple right after, then go home and make some food. Good luck.

Eat a light meal or snack an hour before lifting - include good carbs for energy and some protein.
Within half an hour of lifting you need a shake with fast absorbing carbs (look for dextrose and maltose) and whey protein, which will get into your muscles the fastest.
BBfit1 has made some very detailed posts in the past about this subject - with explanations as to why we need specific things at different times. Try searching fit buddy for post workout or preworkout shakes/meals.
An hour after your post workout shake you need a real meal.
Dietary fat is important and studies have shown that people with a moderate fat intake (good fat) actually lose more bodyfat than those on a low or no-fat diet.
Good luck!
