I'm going to start preparing for my cutting phase and I'm starting to work out my diet. If memory serves a sudden large drop in calories will make your body start storing calories. Is it better to taper down slowly? Or just deal with the intial storage and then cardio it off?

Slowly is better IMO. You want to give your body time to adjust to the lower levels. You can also alternate your carb intake weekly (higher one week, lower the next). How many weeks are you setting your goal for and how much bodyfat are you trying to lose (just curious)?

Cain - there's some pretty good reading here on ft. There's a lot more there than you'll probably need and it's geared toward contest prep but the principle is the same.

My goal is ten lbs a month, and I am going to go for two months. Thanks Mike. I'll read over it again. I have read the entire site, but it's alot to remember.

An 8 week diet cycle should be doable. However, instead of (or in addition to) using scale weight, measure your bodyfat.

Yeah, I found the caliper hit at netrition. I'm picking that up next payday. At this point my weight is no kind of indicator.

You know, should I diet until I hit the bf% I want? Then start adding more mass? I mean by the end of this mass I expect to be about 35-40lbs overweight. But If I lose it all, then I only think I'll gain maybe 15lbs back on a mass program.

Yes, you can diet until you are happy with your bodyfat level. Although, once you get to a certain level (where you can see your abs), you will psychologically want to maintain it. You should look very ripped at that point...

Yeah, I realize the danger in getting down to where I look nice enough I don't want to risk gaining weight. I think I'll be able to overcome it though.

I just basically make up my own Nina. I just eat items from the ft charts throughout the day. My meals can be a little weird, cottage cheese and cereal bars, or cottage cheese and pasta, etc.

Here are some tips. you probably already know most of them but it never hurts to be reminded. I found this in an article i had laying around.

at breakfast
1. browner is better----go for wheat insted of white and save about 100 calories

2. softer the better----go for the whipped butter instead of the stick and save about 35 calories

3. sweeten it with spice----When you add spice this makes it hard to eat which mean you will eat less. 75 calories.

LUNCH HOUR

1.if you can add fixing, fix as much as possible---try adding two vegtables to every meal, helps slow the amount of body fat that is absorbed. save 100 calories

2.Dont slow when you see yellow---use mustard instead of Mayonnaise, save about 75 calories.

3.brown bag it and you'll save more than cash----Pack your own lunch instead of going out and save about 300 Calories.

SNACKING

1.Make bad snacks as difficult as possible---if you make a bad snack make sure it is hard to make so that way you will want to make it less often, save about 150 calories.

2.make you cola cold----when you have to have a soda, pour warm soda in glass with ice. take time so ice melts in and you drink double the amount of liquid without have another pop, and save about 120 calories

DINNER

1.get the vegtabale soup apettizer----This makes you feel fuller and thus eat less of the meal you will be getting, and save 100 calories.

2.eat everything backwards-----start with low calorie foods and eat slow so when you get to the high calories you eat less and save about 150 calories.

3.Go for green not orange--when choosing a vegtable pick the beans and broccoli over the yams and french fries and save about 100 calories.

most important is to slow down. It take 20 minutes for you brain to realize your full.
