Shin Splints

Hi guys im curious to know what to do in this situation. Ive been doing running as my cardio regiment for about 2 months now, and i think ive got some shin splints. Its a pain that i have while walking and running and the pain is down by my ankle on the inside of my right leg. Im curious to know if i can run on them, how long they last, anything i can do to get rid of them?? its only on my right leg...left leg is fine. thanks

Shin splints are caused by a muscle imbalance, usually its because your calves are much stronger than your dorsiflexors (muscles in your shin). I had this problem when over the summer at basketball camp. My coach told me to sit on my bed and lift my toes off the ground and flex my dorsiflexors every night to strengthen them. Well, it worked and I havent had shin splints since. Good luck!

man, i used to have them so bad that after i threw a shot put once, i couldnt even walk anymore. That summer after track season, every time i did calf raises, i would turn around so that my heel were elevated, and id lift my toes to flex my dorsiflexors. It really works wonders...but it will take time.

If you can endure the pain have someone rub them out for you. Shin splints are really scar tissue built up on the bone. Have them rubbed out but get ready cause its the worst pain in the world. But it works.
