sensative skin

Jac48 Posts: 143 Joined: 2004/04/23	2005/02/15, 07:00 PM Im 24, ever since I started shaving I have had such a problem with irritation on my neck after I shave. I have been to the Dermatolagist (spelling?). She told me to use some cream that didnt work. I have tried so much to minimize or rid of it altogather. Sensative skin shaving cream, different razors, and using rubbing alchohol on my face after shaving instead of aftershave. I always shave right after I shower so my skin is wet but I am willing to try anything. Anyone have this problem or know anyway of combating it with lotions or anything. Any feedback will help thanks.
Carivan Posts: 8,542 Joined: 2002/01/20	2005/02/15, 08:10 PM Never use straight alchohol. It will dry out your skin even more! Before you shave, wash your face with soap and rince with water. Apply the shaving cream to your face while your face is wet. Shave. Take a hot face cloth and wipe your face clean, then use a cream (I use Lubriderm) and massage it into your face. Try using Dove soap also. Between those too, your skin should come back to normal. Should come like a baby's behind! -------------- Scales are for dead weight: We are not dead yet! hecdarec Posts: 2,457 Joined: 2003/12/16	2005/02/15, 08:35 PM Shaving in the shower has helped me out. I am also going to start using a cream before I shave and a moisturizer afterwards, I will let you know how it works. -------------- I skip faster than most people can run.

crispy01 Posts: 130 Joined: 2004/09/08	2005/02/16, 09:36 AM I use the Nivea after shave balm also. Then a little while later once it is absorbed into the skin, I will use Neutrogena Face Gel. This stuff is excellent. This combination works the best for the redness for me.

nerraw Posts: 236 Joined: 2003/03/09	2005/02/16, 11:05 AM it could be related to the direction that you drag the blade. Against or with the grain could be your problem. Try the other way around and see if that helps. Failing that, turn the razor over and use the sharp side first.:laugh:
CristalBelle Posts: 1,389 Joined: 2003/06/27	2005/02/16, 01:49 PM My husband has the same problem, and has found that the Nivea aftershave balm for sensitive skin has helped a lot. Also, how much you shave could be part of the problem as well. If my husband shaves every day, the bumps start to lessen. If he goes 2-3 days in between shaves, the bumps continue to be red and angry looking.
Jac48 Posts: 143 Joined: 2004/04/23	2005/02/16, 07:27 PM Thanks for all the feedback :big_smile: I went out and bought the Nivea aftershave and also bought Aveeno Shaving Cream for sensitive skin. Its supposed to be good according to reviews so I thought I would try it. Also I bought the new Mach 3, the one that vibrates. The combination of the 3 was amazing. I had very little razor burn almost none. Needless to say I am so happy with the results. I always shave with the grain I tried against it and it felt like I was ripping my hair out. On a side note I was using the Schick Extreme 3 razor and, I would reccomend the mach 3 over it anyday.
lexballer13 Posts: 165 Joined: 2003/10/15	2005/02/17, 02:56 PM I have the same problem but with acne too and I use the Nivea face wash with the shaving cream (ultra sensitve) and the aftershave a as well. Within the last month I have not had any problems with my face. One of the key things is to use the most sensitive shaving cream because of the chemicals used in them as well as a really good razor. Mach 3, ones like that. Make sure when you start to pull hair use a new fresh one cuz pulling can cause irritation as well.
mmaibohm Posts: 1,621 Joined: 2003/09/30	2005/02/19, 08:56 PM This sounds kind weird but I have found that the gillete sensor mach3 razors help allot. Also fill the sink with hot water before you shower and let your cream sit in it to heat it up. Then afterwards I use neutragena face lotion. Pritchard Posts: 1,212 Joined: 2004/03/02	2005/02/20, 11:06 AM ouch, dont try the witch hazel, i tried it a while back and it stings alot. try applying a hot damp towel or flannel to the face before you shave, im not sure why but it helps, and as someone said make sure you dont shave against the grain. or grow a beard. -------------- wax on, wax off
	2005/02/22, 09:01 AM the best time to shave is right out of a hot shower, when your skin is sweating/wet ....also try aloe vera....I use it instead of a foam cream or whatever....it works wonders...then you can put a little more aloe vera after you're done and rub it in.....it's amazing...
