In 12 week ab program I'm doing seated twists, however, I feel little burning or feel that they are being worked.
Anyone able to give me a detailed explanation, or tips?
Thanks

Make sure you are flexing hard and holding for a second or 2. I didn't feel much burn when I did those either.

If you are doing them seated, the key is to have your butt literally planted in the bench, it cannot move at all! You are doing these for the obliques, so that is where you should feel it. Twist all the way to where your head is facing directly parallel with the bench you are sitting on. If doing them standing, the same thing applies. Plant your feet solid, your lower body cannot move at all from the waist down. Remember, these will not work the "love handles", they are for the obliques.

In additon to the points made by BB1 on maintaining strict form it is also important to note that in a traditional seated twist there is little overload put on the obliques eccept for the end of the movement(the twist). This is due to a lack of resistance in the movement portion of the exercise therefore the static contraction at the end is the only thing illiciting an adaptive response. There are two ways to correct this: #1- Add resistence, facing a pully or anchored elastic band grab & hold hande at center of chest. This will provide resistance as you twist to either side. #2- Multi-position static contraction, use a doorway or other immobile structure & by holding your arms out provide manual resistance against the structure while exerting effort, this should be performed at the beggining mid-point & end stages of the movement. Just some tips on how to make your workouts work for you!
