okay....so I sign up for my exercise routine and I also sign up for the 12 week ab workout. My routine suggests 3x/week and my abs 2x/week. Can I do the abs the same day as my regular or alternate days with cardio? hmmm...does this make any sense?

You could do either. However, you want to limit your training to one hour per session, so I advise fitting it in where you can.

mackfactor is definitely right about keeping the total time down and IMO, working your abs won't have much if any affect on the rest of your workout. I personally like to do abs at the start of the workout as part of my warmup with very little time between sets. It doesn't take but about 10 minutes of my gym time and my days off are days off.

If you are trying to gain muscle, I would opt to do my 2 days of abs with cardio. That is a pretty good combo for calorie burn and ab training. I have found that if I work 2-3 body parts on my weight workouts, with any kind of intensity, I find it harder to work in my abs because my intensity seems to run out after around an hour. I don't want to do abs first because I want to save every bit of strength for heavy weights. So on cardio days, I do my abs first thing, then follow with cardio. Feels right. But if time dictates your workouts, then sometimes we have to do what we have to do. Good luck....

Uh, no, you don't ALWAYS want to do abs last, Shaolin. If you consistently do abs last, they will eventually become a weak link in the chain. Many people underestimate the importance of ab strength (NOT definition) in your overall core strength and in resisting injury. You shouldn't ever ALWAYS put any one muscle group at the end of your workouts.
