I have a friend who is on the obese side and now is motivated to start working out. He is going to do cardio, but he also wants to do some good weight bearing exercises to build up more muscle that can aid in the fat burning process. He has avoided working out because he's hurt his back in the past and his doctor has told him to avoid injuring it again. But he's got to start working out or else it's just a downward spiral. So I want to guide him to some relatively safe back exercises. Any suggestions, or any good websites for advice? Thank you.
First he should get his doctor's clearance to start an exercise program and ask his doctor what NOT to do.
The types of exercises recommended will really depend on his specific injury and should probably be done one-on-one with a physical therapist or trainer who is certified ion injury management and rehabilitation.
