dude, thats such crap, we dont run freakin 8 miles during races
SPIDERMAN 3 THE GAME WILL BE AWESOME says:
yeah we do like once ever 2 weeks
Ryan says:
not during races
SPIDERMAN 3 THE GAME WILL BE AWESOME says:
no the 8 miles makes u faster cause then 3 miles seems like nothing so u run it faster
Ryan says:
umm, actually, 8 miles gives you more endurance, so you can run longer distances, running short distances fast makes you faster
Ryan says:
endurance*
SPIDERMAN 3 THE GAME WILL BE AWESOME says:
believe me it also helps ur speed cause its hard to regulate speed by just running faster y do u think we do 8 miles for practice
Ryan says:
lol, probably to build our endurance
SPIDERMAN 3 THE GAME WILL BE AWESOME says:
well we dont need to run long distances in a race so y do we need more endurance , because it also makes u able to hold a fster speed for longer
Ryan says:
yeah but...we run slow
Ryan says:
when we run 8 miles
SPIDERMAN 3 THE GAME WILL BE AWESOME says:
yeah but its enough to build our endurance and leg strength so it seems easier when u run a shorter dsitance
i would like a more professional opinion on this arguement

Sprinters are VERY fast for that certain amount of time....endurance athletes have to know how to pace themselves for however long the race is.
Muscle wise and energy wise they are both very different.
running longer distance will incrase your ability to perfrom longer...but no neccasrly make you any fast at a 40yard dash..

well, we arent talking about quite that big of a difference, our races are 3 miles, and he is saying that running 8 miles during practices will make you faster at 3 miles.

and I personally think that running 3 miles at a high intensity would be more effective than running 8

I'm going to guess and say you are cross-country athletes running 5k's.
The 8 mile runs are to build your work capacity for regular practices, ie repeat runs, timed splits, etc.
Someone who can run 400m 8 times without losing speed significantly will do much better than someone that starts to slow down after the 3rd repeat. Distance running is a sport of volume, and running distances greater than race length build up your ability to train high volume.
