I split my workouts into bi/back, shoulder/abs/legs, chest/tri, rest. do i really need to rest on day 4? im thinking about just working out everyday. working out my bi/back on day 4 instead of resting wouldnt really be bad since i would have already rested those muscle groups for 2 days right?

its still good to have a day where you do no weight training. your body needs time to rest and recover, even if you haven't trained bis/back in a few days. without the rest day, less calories will be going towards repairing and building muscle and more will be expended through exercise.

You should have a rest day. You'll get burned out if you don't.

As big Andrew said you grow and actually get stronger by resting. right now you may and I mean MAY get away with lifting all the time. A couple of things will happen. One is you will overtrain. Another is you will actually go backwards in terms of gains. You may even cause a injury. My advice is for every 3-4 days training take 1-2 days off. At least!
