Question on running and lifting

I'm starting a new routine tomorrow, so I figure I'd better ask this now.

I'm looking to build muscle mass/tone at this point. The thing is though, that I've always been more of a runner than a lifter. I run 5 days a week, alternating between 45-60 minute runs and 400m-1600m repeats for speed. I was told that if I'm looking to tone, that I should stop running, completely.

Is this true? I really don't want to have to just stop running all together.

Building muscle is about eating more calories than your body requires to function and the lifting heavy.

Running uses calories, especially 45-60 minute runs 5 days per week. You will not be happy with your muscle gains if you run this much.

I wouldn't stop running all together, but I'd cut back to every other day for 30 mins. instead of everyday for 45-60. Also, I would up your protein intake to help with building muscle mass, and probably add some more calories into your diet.
