what exactly does the 'overload' in fitness terminology mean ? i assume it refers to a weight that will push the given muscle to the point of fatigue to stimulate hypertrophy, but i'm not positive.
if anyone could link me to articles, or a glossary, i'd like that.

Related to the Overcompensations principle that states that in order to gain stregnth, muscle size, or endurance from any training, you must excercize against a given resistance greater than that "normaly" encountered. So, if you use the same number of reps every workout, there will be no continued improvement beyond the point to which your body has already adapted.
