Well today was my second day on HIIT.. man this is tense.. at incline walking at 3.8 for 1:30, sprinting at 8.0 for 1:30 , well anyways heres my question:
I'm not super lean and I carry most of my weight along my midsection, but I do have a fair amount of muscle. This is why I am trying to do some HIIT to burn fat (rather then just meaningless weight). Well this morning I woke up, had a protein shake (mixed in water), took a multi vitamin, some oatmeal (for some carbs), and a calcium pill. Is this a "sufficient" diet for doing HIIT? I just don't want to lose any of my hard earned muscle.. also, should I consume anything after HIIT? Right now I'm just drinking water, but I could make a protein shake.
Also: could someone tell me what does the dextrin/maltodextrin (I think these are the right names atleast, I've seen bb1fit mention them before) in my calcium pills do? I would be taking these "calcium chews" but they contain milk, and I've decided to drink water over milk, so this is the way I am now getting my calcium pretty much.
Thanks for all help.

Oh yeah sorry.. another question
I usually goto bed around 10:30-11:30 now, and I usually havent had anything to eat since atleast 8 or 9. Sometimes I goto bed a little hungry. Is this bad? Will my metabolism eat muscle in my sleep? I know metabolism slows in your sleep, so even if it did burn muscle, it wouldn't be ALOT. Anyways, should I worry about this?

If your pre HIIT "meal" is sufficient, you may want to wait around 1/2 to 1 hour and let glucagon do its job. This is a hormone that is released by the pancreas also(as insulin is) which stimulates the release of fat store that you have. In other words, Glucagon promotes fat burning!
So, if you have a decent amount of fat to burn, this is a viable option. Then have a protein/fiber/fat meal to let the lypolosis induced continue.
On your second post, do not go to bed too hungry. Even wanting to lose fat, this is a common mistake. Digestion can take place at any time. A good option here is an eggwhite omlette with alot of omlette veggies along with some flax meal, and you may want to add a cup of the new Hoods dairy beverage(some casein protein with very little sugars) to slow digestion. This will get you through most of the night.
You should have no malto or dextrose in your calcium pills of any kind. I have never seen any of these, and is senseless to include them in a calcium tablet.
