It all depends on you. Some people bulk up fast, some have a hard time to gain mass. These people are categorized by Ectomorphs, Mesomorphs, and Endomorphs. Ectomorphs, are generally thin, with little fat, and long arms and legs. Mesomorphs have it easiest because they gain muscle fast, but do not have a tendancy to gain fat like an Endomorph does. If you want to gain mass, and if your an Ectomorph, i recommend EATING, lifting heavy (6-8 reps), simple compound movements to build mass quicker. And eat protein of course, but fill up on carbs as well. If you are more of an Endomorph, i would cut down on the carbs, because you will see gains fast, but not as defined as an Ectomorph. So basically its up to you. The harder you work, and the more dedicated you are with sleep, food, and training, the faster you will see results. Always remember to compare to what you started off with, not the big guys at the gym. good luck, and stick to it.

In the beginning, no matter what body type you are, you should probably notice gains/changes quite quickly. As you progress, they will slow considerably, and you will have to work that much harder to see anywhere near comparable gains. Let them happen for now, take advantage and work to the max so you can get those gains.
-------------- The one goal you will NEVER achieve is the one you never attempt.
