Nonsense. A well timed insulin spike can be beneficial. Keep the rest of your diet in check with steady blood sugars, and you become insuln sensitive. This is a good thing. The more insulin sensitive you are, the more potent your pwo spike is.
I would guage your insulin spike to your workout intensity. If you feel you don't need it, tben don't have it. For instance on leg day, if you really destroyed them, you may well need some quick. However, on a day you just do some arms, and are not zonked, you may need little if any.
