Can doing push ups to failure and drinking suffiencent protein lead to muscle mass gains? By doing them to failure, i mean i feel the same soreness the next day, as when i lift weights.

For awhile but then your body adapts to doing just pushups everyday. I do incorporate push ups into my workout about ever 4-6 weeks however.
Good to get past plateau's but not just using as only training source.

hmmm, what happens if i vary the weight on my body, i.e wear a weighted vest. This increases the weight i have to push up, so i wont get used to it right???

I would say that doing heavy push ups will still leave you with a great toned chest (and triceps!) but nothing more than that.
No other big muscle gains.

I quite agree with Nina. You can only grow when you really pack on the weights (as in weight training)...and you can't do that with pushups. The best you could hope for is really to tone your muscles, as resistance is only limited to your body weight and any light weight you can strap on your back.

Good luck!
