Hey, I've got a problem with crunches, I can't do them without placing a weight on my feet. What's wrong with me???

Hi, It's a balance thing, your probably not used to exercises like these... in time it won't seem as hard

How far 'up' do you go when doing crunches? Start by doing smaller curls and work your way up until you're able to do them better.
The important thing is that you contract your abdominals at the top of the curl.

Also remember to keep your lower back flat against the floor. I think if doing crunches correctly there's no reason your feet should come off the floor. They would only do this if you're attempting to do a "sit up" which is known to be bad for your back and not that effective at building ab muscles.

Yoda got it right. It's not sit ups but CRUNCHES so keep your lower back on the floor and it's only your shoulders and upper body you're moving. You wont have any probs by keeping your feet on the ground then.

The problem with crunches is that they fail to touch your lower abs. A lot of trainers have rethought their stances on the sit up. It provides a great range of motion and when done correctly poses no more threat of injury than crunches. I'll see if I can dig up the article I read on this.
