I've been doing cardio first thing in the morning to lose fat. From what I've read and research, you should try to eat a high carb meal after cardio in the morning. Something around 30-40 grams. Is this true?. I also have to go straight to work after my morning workout, so I can't eat right away. I would drink a protein shake when I get to work in about 1 hour. Should I change my routine?
I would at best have a lean protein and a complex fibrous carb like a bean source(depending on your dietary guidelines, make the amount for your needs). A great alternative is a lean protein source and fiber and fats. If you are getting very lean you may want to include glutamine. The goal in your post cardio meal is not to raise insulin levels in any way, keep lypolysis intact. Fats and fiber and protein will accomplish this nicely.

I do my cardio first thing in the morning too around 530-6. I usually have breakfast one hour after. It's usually oatmeal with an egg white omelet or chocolate pb oatmeal( with whey protein and 1 t. pb). The protein shake is better 30 minutes after a lifting session.
