I've been really trying to work my abs, and I take a kickboxing class 3x a week that we do ALOT of Ab work in. Anyway, I have really bad lower back pain when i try to work my abs. I really have to push myself to get through some of the exercise sets. The pain goes away in a few seconds after i stop the exercises. Am I doing something wrong? No matter what how i do ab work, whether it be sit ups, crunchs, leg lifts, etc, it hurts for all of them. I am pretty good at tolerating pain, but its an unbearable sharp pain and its not getting any better. Any advice? TIA.

have u just started to work your abs harder because if u have they just might be very sore from being worked harder than u do everyday. if its a sharpe pain and it wont go away when your working out then i would go see a doctor if it still continus to hurt. good luck with everything!

Alot of times backpain with ab workouts is associated with poor form. I don't know that this is the case with you, but be careful of it. Also, you may have a weak lower back, and some hyperxtensions gradually using some weight may(will) go a long ways toward strengthening your lower back. Be careful and take note if it is other than this. With the fact you state that it goes away in a few seconds makes me think bad form. But be carefu, the lower back is nothing to play with. If it continues, you may want to get some more professional (medical) help.
