I haven't tried maxing out on bench since I was a freshman in college (1995). I put up 285lbs one time on my seventh set on Saturday (VERY high intensity workout!), and it got me thinking as to what my one-rep max would actually be. Problem is, I haven't done it in such a long time that I forgot "how" to proceed. What is the safest way to do it? I don't want to just warm up and try 300lbs. There should be a few more sets involved, right? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

yeah do a light warmup set, then move to doing about 6 reps at pretty heavy weight, but not to fatigue, then move to your 1 rep max, make sure you have a spot though.
