I got up and dragged myself down to my glider and did my cardio first thing this morning...I don't think I cared for it much, maybe I wasn't awake yet. I couldn't bring myself to box that early, so shorted myself. I usually do my workout later in the day when I've psyched *searching for a dictionary* myself up. This morning I just went straight for the workout. I hope tomorrow goes better. I want to utilize the best fat burning workouts I can and I guess from what I've understood, this is the best way, first thing in the morning. I drank a breakfast drink right after, it only had 5g of protein, but it was all I could stomach and I don't have any "protein" drinks yet. So, there you go, my experiment with fresh morning workouts, I feel good knowing it should of burned more fat - but feel blaaahh, not my usual "yippee skippee I've worked out" feeling I usually get. -------------- MISERY IS OPTIONAL SMILES FOR MILES |

One thing I've learned is that we're all designed differently. Some people are naturally morning people and some are night people. That's not something you can "just" change. Sure, exercising in the morning boosts your metabolism and helps burn fat more efficiently, but if you are an owl performing an early bird day, you can burn out quick. It's best to workout when you feel your best. Motivation is the key to burning fat. If you go into a routine totally unmotivated, it won't benefit you that much more anyway. Hope this can help you.

Thank you, JNIDAY1, I will give it another couple days. I don't have a problem getting up in the a.m., though I am more a night person and enjoy staying up until at least 11:00 - 1:00 a.m. usually reading the last hour or two, but I just can't seem to kick it into gear for a while. I will give it another couple days and see if it is meant to be or not. I certainly want to make sure I am working out and don't want to start blowing it off because I can't get motivated so early. I will wait about a half hour to hour after getting up tomorrow and giving that a try. Thanks!-------------- MISERY IS OPTIONAL SMILES FOR MILES |

I'm NOT a morning person though I do like to get my workout in as early as possible. . . now I have the luxury of no children and I don't work. . . but what I do when I wake up is 1)put on my workout clothes 2)come check the message boards here while I "wake up" <this also helps get that "psyched up" feeling going> 3)lock the pets in the back room and push play on my workout video
Now I know this wont work for most peeps but I hope it might spark some ideas for you to help you modify your routine to best fit your body and lifestyle! -------------- Love me as I am . . . Let me worry about how I look! |

I read posts here all day long at work. I keep my gym clothes in my car, and hit the workout room before I even step in my apartment. I can't workout in the morning, as I have way too little time, but evenings are good for me. Maybe you are just an evening person veda, and will be better off keeping up your motivation and working out in the afternoon...time will tell. Keep working!!!

Kyrah, that is basically what I've been doing, too. I enjoy getting that extra motivation before getting to the workout, that way if I am thinking of NOT doing it, I become convinced quickly it is the best thing to do! Sometimes it isn't until later in the day. I guess it has been so long I will have to experiment for a few days as I mentioned. Thanks, too, CristalBelle, when I worked that was the only way I could workout as I absolutely, no matter what could not get up early enough to work out first. I will be returning to the work force in another few weeks and want to get as much exercise down and a good routine that I can incorporate when I go back to work as I was always so tired after working all day it was impossible for me to drum up the energy to exercise after working all day, coming home and cooking immediately for three others, doing laundry, cleaning and then off to bed I went. I did enjoy at least walking during lunch and a quick yogurt. Hope by working out daily I will be addicted as I used to be once upon a time.-------------- MISERY IS OPTIONAL SMILES FOR MILES |

Well, I couldn't do my workout in the a.m.today, I felt awful, slept too late for some reason. I started vaccuming, cleaning, worked up a sweat there good and then went for the workout just after lunch. I dug for some "Gilad" tapes and found one on weight loss, so I hit that hard, ohhhhhhh I felt the burn! I will incorporate that into my workouts, too, for a while. I was pretty frustrated looking in the mirror today, want to "see" that sign of weight loss, but it's not here yet, though I know it's getting better on the inside, I could use to lose. I guess I am noticing some muscle definition under the fat begging to be seen, so I'll work toward that!

For me, the first place I noticed the muscle definition, is the place where your shoulder dips into your bicep...when I look at that little indent it gives me motivation to keep going....and, I started seeing it after about 2 weeks of work. Try looking at your arms, and see if it is showing up for you, and maybe that will be a little bit of "results" you need to help keep ya going on days when you are pooped!!

vedakathryn - it is a myth that you will burn more claories in the morning, or on an empty stomach - reread the post on cardio that is a sticky in one of the other forums.
The best time to do cardio is.... drum roll please...the time that it fits into your day and you like to do it! Biologically there are larks and owls - don't force yourself to be a lark if you are happier being an owl. Don't judge by the mirror - you see yourself every day and changes won't register as much - take photos once a week or every two weeks and you will see changes when you compare them side by side! -------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight. |

Your right, CristalBelle, I have more definition in my arms and shoulders...it is funny as later in the day long after I posted, I put my hand out to take my hubby's and he muttered, "muscles", I looked at him and asked him what in the world he was talking about, the muscles in my mouth from yapping? He told me to squeeze his hand and I actually made him yelp and my husband has very strong hands, so as little as that was, it gave me a little motivational thrill.
Asimmer, I'll reread the post, sorry, I thought I was reading right...thank you for clarifying, it has been confusing. I like the idea about the pictures, though I loathe having my picture taken right now more than ever. Hey, I sent a download to replace my #1 pic three times now and emailed George but haven't heard, do you know how I would go about changing it, I just can't "stomach" that one any longer...:( Thank you. -------------- MISERY IS OPTIONAL SMILES FOR MILES |

Don't push yourself to get up early to work out. I bet missing much needed sleep actually has a bad effect on the workout anyway. Get your sleep and work out when you have the best motivation to do it.

Thanks, prairiegirl, I just take a bit of time to get going in the morning when it comes to working out, I guess.
Hey, have to share, hope you don't mind...today when my husband left he gave me a real big hug and said, "Whatever you are doing down there, don't stop, it's working!" WOW!! "Down there" is my little makeshift gym in our rec room, by the way! He was smilin' away and though as I mentioned, I can't see much, I guess he is noticin' somethin'! Gave me enough motivation to make it through another day or three! :dumbbell::love::dumbbell: -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL SMILES FOR MILES HAVE A GREAT DAY! |

I find that I am not a morning person AT ALL...But that's what motivates me to work out at that time! Being a total night owl, I am never motivated to work out in the evening because I always come up with "better" things to do! The morning is the only time that I can get it done...I just need to get myself out of bed first!
