My orthopeadic surgeon has advised absolutely no more squats and lunges...and nothing to bend the knee more than 90 degrees. Squats and lunges were a big part of my workout for legs! How can I keep my legs defined without them? I can still do extentions, presses (if I'm careful), curls and deadlifts. Anyone have any suggestions? Are half squats and low step ups as effective? Any help would be appreciated!

Well a little time on an eliptical machine might be kind to the knees.. but usually yield different results than lifting. (my GF informed me last night that my running has made my legs too skinny!) I usually stop my leg press just before hitting 90 degrees since I know it's rough on the knees.. sure gives me a good glute and thigh workout. Be careful with you knees! They're the only ones ya got!

Wait a minute he lets you do leg ext, but no squats? How is that stats show that the leg ext causes more knee injuries(when squats are done correctly) than squats? Hmmmm sorry no real replacement for them

Yeah...I thought it was a bit strange too, but I have a condition/disease, and not an injury. (Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis) It does affect the joint, but is not a tear or injury. I do have to be very careful on the presses and extentions...going light, etc... Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just have to experiment and see what happens. There's always Pilates!
