I was just wondering if the exercise program is different for females than it is for males. Because I just did my first day today and I found it really hard to get the target reps on some exercises. It has target reps for my program at 15,15,12, and 10.

Hi there
We don't really work differently from the guys so yes we use the same program. You need to choose a weight where you'll be able to do 15, 12 or 10 repetitions.

Yes, I believe that the rule of thumb for firming up (instead of bulking up) is less weight to maintain more reps (not a lot of weight)

Not necessarily klw0022. You should start out with a weight that is comfortable, but you need to constantly add weight and challenge your muscles to see much progress. As a biginner you don't want to lift too heavy to start, but you should be pretty much wiped out after your last set of 8 (or whatever the target number is). If it is too easy then next time you should start with a heavier weight. If you can only get 3-4 reps then that is good and you should keep doing that until you get 8 before you move up the weight. Always doing light weight and lots of reps is really just spinning your wheels.

I have started this program with my husband and a lot of the routines are the same for both of us. I know that I can not realisticly lift 125lb, yet. But he can, so I lift a lot lower weight than he does. However, I "feel" the workouts and that is what I am aiming for. gain muscle, lose weight and eventually build up on my weight lifting.

Funny thing is I love to work my legs and my husband doesn't so I can "lift" more weight with my legs than he can and vise versa on the arms/chest for us. That is a hard part for me to work out, and he loves it.
