I have recently decided to make an attempt to get that feeling back that I had in High School. I played in several sports and was in great shape and then....College.
I completely reversed everything. I am now 31 and in the past 13 years I have smoked, drank pretty heavily on the weekends and have eaten poorly. When I graduated from H.S. I was 6'1" and weighed 135 lbs. I could run a mile in under 5 min. and felt great. I now weigh 180, have a beer belly and cant run half a mile without feeling like I am gonna passout. I am in dire straits gang. 3 weeks ago I joined the local gym and have been in every other day just trying to find my legs again (baby steps right?).
My question is this. I have limited time to spend in the gym due to work, kids, wife, etc... And I dont want to burn myself out by overdoing it and making dramatic changes in my life other than quitting the smoking and drinking the hooch.
Can someone help me out with a great plan for me to lose the gut, rebuild my lungs, and give me some of that old self back again?
BTW, I had weighed close to 200lbs. this last spring. Since then I have been doing the slim Fast thing. My current diet is usually a fruit smoothie (homade w/frozen mixed berries, banana, yogart, honey, oats, and turbinado) or an ADVANTedge drink, and the same for lunch, then the reasonable supper. I feel like a new person just in the 3 weeks I have been going to the gym. I usually go for about 1 1/2 hrs.every other day and go through the circuit training machines trying to hit most of them doing 3 sets/10 reps of each. Then 20 min. on the eliptical and follow up with crunches. This week I actually went to a body blast class with my wife and she along with the instructor said I did great. I dont believe them, but I will return this week anyways...lol. I have thought about signing up for the personal training but because of limited income I thought I would just see what some of your thoughts were first.
Thanks for any input gang.

Welcome to the boards. This is an AWESOME website!!!

Set up your training program here and try to work through it for a week or two to see how you feel with it. If you have a question about exactly how to perform an exercise, ask somebody at the gym, they'll help for free.

I went over to the gym not having a clue what to do and just started working on the circuit. then I researched and found this site. Now I go over there with a plan and a list of exercises and number of reps to do.

You can do it.
