Ok, I am finally getting serious about losing weight and toning up. I have been doing the following routine on the equipment I have- 1/2 hr on my Nordic Track followed by 1/2 hr on the exercise bike. Then I take a 2 minutes rest and do the same regimine over again. I plan on buying some free weights and a bench. I'd like to join a gym, but I have special needs kids and can't get out to do so. I realize I am doing strictly cardio stuff, and I enjoy doing it. I'm worried about doing too much weigths because I don't want to add any more weight to this Body!!!!! I am planning on using the fitness program designed by this site. Any help or advice would be helpful. Thanks
Well if you are intrested in loosing fat you need tolift weights. I will be honset with you, cardio is fine but too much combined with a low cal diet will burn muscle first fat second. What this does is cause you metabolism to slow down which means you burn less cals and gain weight even on a c low cal diet. However lifting weight will add muscle which increases the metabolism which burns cals and helps to burn fat. Fat takes up more room, but weighs less thatn muscle. Muscle takes up less room but weighs more. This said, when you lift weights you loos fat add muscle. The result is that you loose inches but may actually gain weight. this is good. Not sure since you have not filled out your profile yet, but that old wives tale that if a woman, or a man for that matter lifts heavy will bulk up is false. A woman does nto have enough male hormones to do so easily. For a man it is easier but you really have to work at it and it takes years. My advice is to buy the weights do a good workout from here and do one session of cardio. Add a lot of protein and good carbs (look in the nutrition board) and drink water....hope this helps!
