Hi i am a 16yr old male. I'v been doin weight training for around 18weeks now and during the first 3 i noticed a great improvement in the weights i could do. But as the weeks have gone on i find it harder to improve at the rate i did and am stuck at certian weights. What is the limiting factor here? I believe i need to put on weight. I tried eatin lots of food (meats etc) but dnt really have enough food at home. I've considered trying a protein supplement. What do you recommend i should do?

In beginning stages, you always make pretty hefty gains. After that initial surge is done, it gets harder to make gains. Think about it, if you kept going up at the rate you were for the first 3 weeks, everyone would be lifting cars in no time! The body adapts very quickly. You need to try to keep increasing the load, whether it be 2 1/2 lbs. or another rep. This is where a journal can be immensley handy. Your diet sounds like your most limiting factor right now. You probably should have made gains for more than 3 weeks. Sounds like a protein supplement would be up your alley. If you are trying to gain weight, you need to eat lots of complex carbs too. This will supply needed glycogen for your lifts. Check out the nutririon section of this site for some sound ideas. Then if you have concerns or questions, post them and someone will be glad to assist you further. Good luck

Hey man, here's some great advice. Go out and buy Arnold Schwarzenegger's Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding, that's all you need. Don't bother with magazines they're full of companies trying to sell you crap be feeding you with crap. I study bodybuilding daily and this book is the best I've seen, it's all there. Diet, strategies, technique, etc. You need to find out your body type(ectomorph, mesomorph,or endomorph) and figure out your diet from there. Lifting is the easy part.

Increase your calories and protein and try changing up your program.
