I was reading a link I found on here for HIT program. During my read it said to do cardio before breakfest. That will help burn more fat and aid in weight loss because your system has to turn to fat instead of carbs.

Would this not eat away at muscle however? I always thought it was good to eat before because if you don't, its like running a car with no fuel.

Someone wana set me straight on this?

http://www.musclemedia.com/training/hiit.asp

This is another good article concerning HIIT. I don't know that it will technically answer your question, but it's a good article. I always do my cardio first thing in the morning. I feel if I don't, then I am burning the "fuel" that I have consummed and not fat. I think that's why most people suggest doing cardio after weights if you are doing them the same day, since your glycogen stores are down, calories are burned through the weight training, and you can then attack the fat with the cardio. I think also that you probably DO burn some muscle with cardio, any kind of cardio. That's why you don't want to overdo it and lose your muscle gains.

If you "protect" your muscle with BCAA's, or even mass aminos if you are still trying to gain mass, then this can be accomplished. The theory is that if there is no fuel(glycoge), as first thing in the morning, your body is forced to "feed" upon itself to produce glycogen for normal functions, thus it burns fatty acids to accomplish this. But, without protection, it may get some laen tissue too. That is why aminos can be very valuable at this time, if you get a good amino and not just crushed whey protein, they are predigested and so are of immediate use. I am doing this right now as a matter of fact, and did it last pre contest also.

i'm kinda lazy right now at this time of night to read all of the above posts so I just read the first one... you don't have to worry about using your muscle as the main fuel source if you exercise before breakfast. This is because your body is in a semi-starvation mode from not eating all night. Therefore it's already using fats more than muscle.
