Well, I did my UBW Friday, it was the first 'real' weight training I'd done on the challenge due to a snowstorm on Mon, and a very sick dh on Wednesday. Anyway, when I woke up this morning, I was really sore! I went into the bathroom to get around and get ready for my cardio, and you won't believe what happened! So, here I am, brushing my hair, when all of a sudden, my right arm falls off! Of course, as reflex, I reach with my left arm to grab it, and it falls off too! So here I am, in the bathroom, with no arms, in shock, looking like the Black Knight on Monty Python, and my husband comes in and sees me. Well, he grabs up my arms and puts me in the car, and we rush to the hospital. Luckily, we only live a block away. I go in for emergency surgery, and since we were able to get in so soon, my arms were saved! My feeling is coming back, and obviously, I have use of my extremities, since I am typing this right now. I think the ER staff was in shock when I came in. You know, I don't live in a large city or anything, so when someone's arms fall off, it's a pretty big deal. The doctor that was on call came in to visit with me to see how I was doing, and then said he needed to ask me a personal question. "You wouldn't happen to be doing that Body for Life program would you?""Why, yes I am doctor, why do you ask?" "Well," said the doctor, "I've only seen one other case like this, and the guy hit 10s on all his exercises, and his arms fell off, right there in the gym!" I guess I'm some sort of medical oddity now. It seems that the phrase, "I worked out so hard, it feels like my arms will fall off," maybe isn't exaggerated at all! |

Hmmmm good to know that you are back to normal Alorle. Don't forget to eat the right nutritions after weight training and of course stretch out your muscles. This will help a little bit to prevent too sore muscles. BUT of course when not having been doing a certain movement for a while, it's difficult completely to prevent the following soreness....Does your gym have a sauna? This is a great way to help the muscles recover as well. Now, let your hubby massage you!!! |

ROFL, no mike, my arms didn't really fall off. It was just a cute little story I made up because my arms hurt from a really good workout. :) |

I'm sorry. :'( I guess my subtle sarcasm didn't go over so well. I thought it was funny anyway :), but I can just envision now a bunch of newbies to weight training shifting down to 5 pound dumbells because they are in fear of their arms falling off! I'm going to go take a time out and sit in a corner for a while to think about what I've done! ;) |

Subtle sarcasm is good. Joking about it helps with the pain. When I train if I am not hurting (burning) to the point that I can't go on then I didn't get a good workout. Besides I have a true story that would most definately scare anyone new to weight training to the point that they wouldn't look at weights. Our motto in our gym is Pain is Temporary, Glory is Forever. Just keep me laughing.Dave |

Dave be careful thou, if you search to touch the limits EVERY single time you go to the gym, you are close to touching the limits of an accident as well.AND if you have an accident..... that means no training for 1-3 months. I'm not going to tell you want to do, but just be concious about it. |

I have modified my routine some what. I have mass, now I need to tone but I still leave in a heavy set to keep my strength up. I'm just the type of person that if you tell me I can't do something I will do it. In the past it has cost me training wise with minor injuries. Thank God but it is always in the back of my mind of the severity of certain injuries. I have good spotters which is a blessing Safety is a major priority with me Certain lifts I wont do a max weight just for fear of losing it. Dave |

Amen to safety!!! We all tend to lift 'till our arms fall off...but that's better than lifting until we drop the weights on ourselves!!! Good point Sanddevil.... |

Oh talking about safety, even thou that you have the most expensive and the very best dumbells ALWAYS check if they don't move or are loose BEFORE using the dumbells over your head.Doesn't cost anything to do and maybe it's not even necessairy, but just one never know..... |
