A while back I won a month membership to the World Gym in my city... so, today I went for the first time... What an experience...

First off, my body was giving me hell for working out earlier in the day than I usually do... I usually work out in the evening...

I also learned that although I was doing my deadlifts 'almost' correct, a little change in form can make a big difference... I doing them fairly well, just needed a little pointer to get the form even better... this, of course, adjusted the weight I was doing...

All in all, it was a decent experience... having other people around is interesting too... I work out at home so it's usually me, my wife, the kids and the cats...

I also feel the atmosphere, or the fact I was working out somewhere else may have inhibited what I was doing... just a matter of comfort I guess...

Overall, cool experience... just thought I'd share...

Cool. The gym atmosphere can be very motivating for some people and intimidating for others. The thing you have to keep in mind is that everyone is so busy worrying about how they, themself, look that they aren't critiqueing you as much as you imagine (my grammar and spelling seem to have the day off, sorry).
I really miss working out at a club sometimes, but in my studio there is just me to laugh when I do really smooth things like walk into equipment or trip over things (I meant to do that...)

The other people being around didn't really bother me... I'm just not used to the 'group' setting at this point... enjoyed it though... only wish my wallet could afford it!

I'm in a unique position where I travel ALOT, therefore, I get to try gyms in different cities on a regular basis. Trust me, each gym has it's own "feel". Like you, I work out at my office, most times it's just me, myself & I. It can be a positive or negative. Today was leg day, without others around, I'm a little timid going all out on squats. Today, I could have used more people around. In fact, even though my gym at the office is free, I'm considering getting a membership at a local club, just for days like this.

working out at home RULES!

I can put whatever music I want on and sing along (if I'm not too out of breath) and even burst into a bit of impromptu air guitar if the mood takes me!

occasionally miss the social aspect though but then again noone ever spoke to me at my old gym anyway :(

hahahaha... I agree.... I like working out at home... not sure I'll sign up for a gym membership at the end of the month... but it is certainly something worth trying at least once!

I used to be a big at-home workout person, but, once I began training at the gym that I work at, there was no going back. I couldn't imagine working out at home anymore, mostly due to the fact that there is so :dumbbell:much more equipment at my gym and the atmosphere is very motivating. I guess it is something that grows on you.

hmmm, if the gym is packed dont u have to wait for the equipments? That could be..ermm..frustrating, I mean your all fired up from your last exercise, 45secs rest and off to next exercise only to find someone else there and have to wait 10min :)

the only time i ever found a gym to be packed was in high school when everyone came to lift in a small cramped area. at college its not bad, and at gyms at home...its almost wonderous. theres always room to get my stuff done comfortably i barely ever wait for machines. i cant imagine going back to lifting in my own house...i have the weights but its just not the same as it used to be.

I prefer working out at the gym, I think my workouts are more complete than when I work out at home.

I do 20-25 minuted of cardio (bike, eliptical machine) after every workout, a get warmed up on the bike/ treadmill...machines that I don't have access to at home.

Of course nothing compares to a 2 hour walk in the park, but who's got the time to do that 4 times a week? :surprised:
