Meal before morning workout?

Should I eat something before I go workout at 5:30 in the morning?

When I work out very early in the morning I usely drink a protein shake before (I cannot train with "real" food in the stomach). Works for me........

Are you talking about weight lifting or only cardio?

I agree with philia. If building lean mass and maintiaing it is your goal, then a protein shake right before training will do the trick. I train at the same time or earlier, and I don't think it would be wise to wake up in an already deprived state and break it down even more.
