looks like everyone covered what i would say. For the most part I've noticed about a 10 pound drop in overall weight when i finish training for a marathon. just keep lifting heavy and eating ALOT. The weight comes back pretty easy after the training schedule to btw.

Hey all.
Ive been lifting weight for about three years now ,im 31 by the way. I was a tall skinny lad like everyone in my family ,good ol genetics!, but have made some very good gains.
Anyway ive started some intensive training now for a marathon in three months ,ive done halfs etc before but never fully committed to a hardcore running schedule for any race before this.
So my question is what sorta weights program can i keep doing so that any gains ive made are'nt wasted away by the extreme amounts of cardio im now doing.
Maybe should i be going very very easy in the gym so my body doesnt get burned out?
Ive been doing 4 day split/ heavy weights low reps. Im now running aprox 5 days a week, with the mileage increasing every week till marathon.

id eat a lot A LOT thats my advise that way the body wouldn't be so quick to break down the muscle tissue. don't want to interfere with your training for the marathon. weightlifting and long distance just don't mix. correct me if im wrong but most of the long distance runners aren't exactly extremely musclebound.

Yeah im eating alot anyway and am very carefull to not go running on an empty stomach or first thing in morning to give my body fuel to burn rather then muscle.
The fact that long distance runners are'nt very bulky is the very reason i posted this to try and find out if there is any particular program i can do that would limit muscle lose with such an intense cardio routine without putting my body under too much stress?
Should i just keep with the four day split - heavy weights low reps or move to a two day full body or 3 day split light weights/high reps etc etc...........

id stick to the low reps high weight might give the body a reason to keep the muscle. thats a lot of cardio the best way to tell if you are losing any muscle is if your lifts start going down.

yeah will stick with current program and just listen to my body to see if i need to change things around.
Looking forward to doing the marathon but also looking forward to being finished with it:)
Lots of running in irish summer weather (rain rain and rain)..........
