I'm a little confused! I want to maintain the weight that I am, I started a couple of weeks ago at 165 pounds and now I'm down to 153. I was running and doing cardio 4 days a week to shed the weight. I started a workout plan this week to build muscle. my problem is getting rid of this buldge that's still in my stomach. I also started the 12 week abdominal workout. I dont know if I,m confusing my body by doing a excersice plan to build lean muscle and a abdominal excercise routine to shed pounds. I want to stay at or about 150-153 pounds. my nutritional plan has me taking in 2700 calories a day. seems like a lot when I'm trying to shape my stomach. Please help!!!

For starters doing abs is not going to shed pounds. You still have the same bulge because it sounds like you did cardio 4 days a week and did not lift. Doing cardio will just make you a smaller version of the shape you are, it will not change the shape of your body. Stick to the lifting plan you started this week and make sure you are eating right and you should see the results you are looking for. This will take time so do not get discouraged. Good Luck and welcome to FT.

You should continue the cardio, but tone it down a bit. Maybe 20 minutes before or after your strength training. I would still do abs a couple times a week, but it shouldn't be a focal point of your routine. If you start eating all of those calories, you should be able to gain some muscle mass, but the flab around your stomach probably won't go away. So right now you're going to choose weather you want to keep dieting to lose weight, or to gain muscle mass. One important thing to note is that when you start taking in all of those calories, you most likely will gain a little of the fat back, but once you return to a reduced calorie type of diet, it should go away rather quickly.
Oh and one last thing, if you decide to go the mass building route, make sure that you're calories are clean. Don't just start eating a bunch of fast food, or high calorie processed garbage. Eat more of the foods that are actually good for you(i.e. chicken breast, veggies, and whole foods) This will be much more effective for lean muscle growth.

Harvsreal- it sounds like your questioning the same things I was about 2-3 years ago and I wish more than ever I knew then what know now!!
First off, before you ask too many questions on here (yes sometimes its necessary) but there's so much material to read from whether it be on this site or just googling it! Anyways: here goes. Heres what I would if i were you, in fact heres what im doing now.
Take this approach: Your worried about putting on some weight/fat cause you want people to see you as lean and muscular BUT you wish you could have even more muscle- a shredded 6 pack perhaps with bigger arms, pecs, shoulders, legs etc...am I right? Im the same way and for a couple years there I concentrated on ABS and Lifting while trying to MAINTAIN my weight. Truth is: Your not going to put on very much muscle at all when your maintaining. Your much better off to pack on some mass. Eat healthy and try and put on 5-10 pounds of mass (itll be hard cause it sounds like your lean but with time it will come), some of this weight will of course be fat but you shouldnt worry about that. Once your happy with the muscle you put on you could begin "cutting". -Reduce your calories continue eating good frequent meals, just reduce them and this caloric deficit will eventually lead you back to your preferred weight-shed whatever weight you had on if thats your preference. This process will reem you much greater benefits. Ive seen HUGE results and I only caught onto this about a year ago. Im a hardgainer myself and right now im currently trying to gain mass (its the winter a few pounds won't hurt). In a month or two from now I will begin reducing calories- still eating the same healthy foods just in lesser amounts. Its key to try and keep eating as much protein as possible though!! Keep that protein intake high. Be consistent, train HEAVY HEAVY-low reps always, Sleep, Drink lots of water and youll be on your way to a bigger, more defined body! Hope this was a help.
