I tried doing my exercises more slowly this week than I normally do and man did it make my muscles sore! I actually had to use a little less weight than normal to get to my target reps. It feels like it is makeing my muscles work harder but is this really going to do me any good?

yes - because you had to use your muscles & not momentum to do the work

you can still move the weight fast, without taking a ridesoslly long amount of time to rep. Not being sore doesn't mean your not getting a good work out.

By going slow your concentrating on the esentric contractions......that is the negative or downward phase of the lift. You do and can damage more muscle fibers this way, however I dont' like it cause if you train slow, thats how your muscles will work, slow.
