I want to gain lean mass AND lose the fat around my abs so i was told it is best to do cardio and lift weights as far apart during the day as possible. So I can either do cardio before breaksfast then lift in the evening before or after dinner. . . .OR i can lift before breakfast and then do cardio in the evening before or after dinner. . Which is better? does it make a difference?

I've heard anything before breakfast isn't good. Your body is very catabolic right now.....its went 8 hours without food or water.

But I have heard stories people loosing 3 or 4 in off their waist.....doing some cardio before brekfast.

if yoru 50lbs or more .....over weight or whatever .. i'd say go for it.....but if your just wanting to loose 5 6 lbs to look good on the beach....i'd advise against it.

Or if you willing to loose a lil muscle mass..maybe....then go for it.. see what works....

But I would NOT lift on an empty stomach....do that in evening...

thanks! yeah I am actutally fairly lean everywhere except my abs area which seems impossible to get rid of! how much time is it best to wait after eating before doing cardio? and should i be eating anything after cardio as well or is it ok to do it right before going to sleep?

Ah, someone else is trying to do cardio before bed. I thought I was strange, I start doing just that tonight. I work long nights and only get off around 4am. I plan on running around 6am, or as soon as it is light since if I tried it when I woke up I'd be too tired for work. I need my sleep after all, and am lucky if I get 6 hrs as it is. I was thinking this would be wrong to do before bed though.

I drill for 15 minutes before showering and getting ready for bed when I am in training (read: always). I find it helps me relax and get a better rest. Of course, I, like andrew, lift at around 4-6.

I heard the same thing. Apparently exercising on an empty stomach burns muscle rather than fat. So, like you said if you want to resort to desperate measures to lose weight then go for it. Just be aware what you're doing though.

i noticed then wen i workout, cardio or lifting, on an empty stomach i start to feel lightheaded and dizzy...

that's not a good feeling when you're out running and you're a mile away from your house..
