You should "fuel" yourself in some ways before you train. If you have to, invest in some MRP's, you mix one up in a couple minutes and chug it down. Or do your own with whey protein, oatmeal, and a banana for instance or some peanut butter and blend it and chug it down. Many things you can do, but you are already in a catabolic state, and you are further doing damage by not eating.

Chug it down and go train. Especially if it is a store bought MRP, gastric emptying will occur rather quickly as compared to whole foods.

I have oatmeal, a whole grain waffle or flax bread as toast, 4 eggwhites, 1 whole egg, and a protein drink or 4 slices of turkey bacon. I am in the gym like clockwork 1 hr. after this. Before your workout is a good time to "fuel" up with some decent carbs.

ok i'm going to try peanutbutter, oatmeal and some milk blend it and chug it and then have an orange. After my workout i'll have 2 scoops of VP2 whey. How does this sound bb1fit. Would it be bad to go eat some actual food like eggs sausage and some hardboiled eggs with some oatmeal and orange juice after my workout, say like 30 min. to an hour after?

By your profile, you want muscle mass above all else. So, first off to help insulin sensitivity, I would not hafe the milk, use water pre workout. :cool:Assuming you train to failure or exhaustion, I would add some simple sugars to my post workout VP2. VP2 is an excellent protein, but alone after a tough workout most of it if not all of it will go to glycogen replacement and trying to stabilize blood sugars, etc. instead of going to muscle building. You will have missed your "window of opportunity". Chug 1/2 down immediately, sip the rest for about an hour. This will keep the anabolic environment going, the "window" can last for well over an hour or more, so you will be keeping constant nutrients flowing at the opportune time. Gastric emptying will happen upon completion fairly quickly, so within 1 hr. or less, 30-45 min. is optimal, have a meal of high protein, fiber and fats like flax oil. This is an opprotune time to use them as insulin sensitivity will now be low due to the spike from the drink, and the fats will have no effect on insulin and they have an anabolic effect on protein synthesis. Then follow up with your normally scheduled meal 3 hrs. later.

Hey bb1, just curious...How much of each of these do you put in for your protein drink? Sounds like a good recipe.

Thanx!

Depends on my goals, if trying to gain or lean out.

I am also taking cell tech will that help with glycogen replacement? I usually chug down the creatine after a workout then the VP2 whey is this the correct way doing it? I usually chug the VP2 whey, but i will start taking it the way you stated above.

Justin....if you are using Cell tech, then take your protein with it. Cell tech will raise blood sugars and give you your insulin spike. I was referring to any powdered creatine(without sugars in it) as to taking 20 minutes in to your shake, and that was with using simple carbs dextrose and maltodextrin with your protein for enhancement. I like this protocol better, because you can taper your drink to last the amount of time to take optimal advantage of the "window". With celltech, you will need to chug it down after mixing it right away. Mix your protein right in.

As far as the meal, yes, high protein and fiber and fats for your post workout meal, for the reasons I stated above. This is the meal after consuming your PWO shake.
