Lent sacrifice.... oh boy

So... being the good christian I am I decided to do something drastic and give up eating between the hours of 9-4 for the season of Lent.... I know that eating small meals thoughout the day is supposed to be the most healthy thing to do but for the next 30 some days it isn't an option. In order to last I've started drinking a lot of water (a good thing that I've been neglecting) but I wonder... does fasting all day make what i eat later more impactful? if so... what should I eat so that my body doesn't turn everything into stored fat and such... I also have an intense hour long workout, four days a week so does this also affect the way my body utilizes its food intake? any help would be greatly appreciated...

Ugh, I know what you mean. One of the things I did was give up meat on Wednesdays and Fridays - murder on my workouts, so I switched them to tues, thurs, and sat. But to answer your questions:

1)does fasting all day make what i eat later more impactful? It can, especially by causing insulin spikes.

2)if so... what should I eat so that my body doesn't turn everything into stored fat and such... try to eat the rest of the time (other than 9-4) as much as normal as possible. Also, dont forget healthy dosages of good fats, to help with the fasting times.

3) I also have an intense hour long workout, four days a week so does this also affect the way my body utilizes its food intake?........ Yes, your body will suffer. try to schedule workouts well away from the times when you're fasting.

Are you allowed to drink?
You could drink milk or protein shakes to fuel yourself during the day
or is that cheating?

Hmm lent I hate it lol I love fish and it makes it a pain going out for fish on fridays lol.

haha... luckily i don't have too much problem of a problem with finding fish down here in florida...

and these fasting times are between 9am and 4 pm....

Thanks Michael for the input.... I do try and eat several small amoutns for the rest of the day so that i don't splurge and my workouts arent until six pm and while i haven't noticed any major problems now i hope there won't be any along the way... i can't reschedule them either because I work out with a group and we all train with a ret. navy seal...but like i said.. so far there hasn;t been a prob...

princesslodgey- i can drink during the day but I've been trying to just drink a lot of water and sometimes i get a chance to make a run to smoothie king... all hail ;)

Anyways...thanks again for all the input... i'll keep you posted on how it's going

I don't know...I understand and respect your religious values, but going that long throughout the day without eating, as Mike said, could case the body to store fat because your metabolism is taking a long break. Remeber, losing weight isn't about not eating(NOT TO SAY YOU ARE STARVING YOURSELF!!) its about eating right which include 4-6 small meals throughout the day consisting of protein and fibrous carbs...2-3 hours in between meals so as to keep the metabolism going.

Well, I think Lent is taken out of context. I'll eat my fish on Friday, but I'm going to cook food for the Food Kitchen (The Mission... for the homeless) once a month and read one chapter out of the Bible once a week.

Please don't sacrifice your health (EAT NORMALLY) for the sake of a church indoctrinated "festivity."

To each his own, shakkai - that's what makes Lent important. Most people I know do more than just one thing (such as diet), but it is something personal. Because of my hypoglycemia, I can't fast, so I do other things, most of which I keep to myself. :love: Good luck to everyone in getting the most out of this season! :)

I'm a week behind on posting to this, hopefully this won't be offending to some, especially you Ronnie.

There are many other ways to follow the Lenten Season, Without possible health side effects. Have you considered any of these:

Alms-giving: This doens't have to be monetary. It can be time. Donate time to a local charity, how does two or three hours per week sound. Suggestions could be, helping someone learn to read at the library. Washing dishes at a local soup kitchen. The idea here is to help someone see the Christ in you. You may find it more rewarding than blindly giving money.

Prayer: Spend time daily at church. Spend one hour in adoration. Pray the Rosary. Go through the Stations of the Cross. The idea behind this is to help you develop a more one-on-one relationship with Christ.

Thank you for your suggestions... I realize that there are many different possibiities that i could have chosen. Because of my college studies and my fitness program I don't have much axtra free time to do any more. I already volunteer with my church and I am on the community service committee with my college. i use this time for selflessness and to bring me closer to God. I chose to give up lunch to undestand this idea of physical suffering. Society takes much for granted and I myself am guilty of such, therefore this was more about awareness than neglecting my physical needs.
