In front or behind the neck?

If you are aiming to develop your 'lats' then ALWAYS to the front.. high on your chest and make sure you touch and squeeze for a second. If you go to the back.. you will be using your biceps and chest muscles over your back muscles.

It's a good idea to change once in a while. But when taking heavy on this exercise always do in to the front since you'll be stressing your shoulders too much when pulling in to your neck.

I like working both ways. One thing I learned long ago was to keep the elbows working as far forward as you can. That eliminates some of the shoulder problems and lets you target the inner back at the bottom of the move.
