I usually excercise at nights 1 - 3 hours after dinner. Sometimes I run on the treadmill for 30 minutes before working out. Some nights i have plenty of energy & sometimes I have no energy left to work out after running. Should I not do cardio on the weight training days or try an energy bar or drink?

I don't work out for 3 hours, that is when I work out, anywhere from 1 - 3 hours after supper. I may do cardio for 1/2 hr & then weights for 1/2 hr.

Probably more to do with what you are eating. You've got to make sure that what you are eating is sufficient to provide you with enough energy for your work-out. Also look at what makes up your meals. What you put in you get out.

Ok since I generally speak in analogies (and I'm sadly reminded of how Jack Nicholson in, "As Good As It Gets," said, "People who talk in metaphors oughtta shampoo my crotch.") I want to try a simple, perhaps already used one here.

You are a car. You fill up for a short trip, and you've got too much. You move sluggishly. You try to go on one or two gallons for a trip that requires three gallons, you fizzle out, die on the highway.

Put in four gallons. Three for the workout, one to get you home. And don't use cheap gas. Use the best quality you can find. You want your car to perform.

This analogy runs into difficulty in that a car doesn't really gain any good by being driven. Your body, however, does. Every trip is a step closer to the dream you have for your body. Take a bunch of undergas, low-quality gas, or overgas trips, and your body is on this slow, sluggish march towards the finish line, or perhaps stalled, or perhaps conked out and rolling backwards.

Make your little trips count, because if you were to watch this process in slow-motion, the guys that are getting to their goals FAST are the ones who are careful in their short trips. Four gallons, high quality, and pedal to the medal. Let the Dawgs out.

I was going to the gym right after I got home from work (about 6 p.m.) so I was not eating dinner before, just, maybe, a protein bar. Then my training got changed to 7:30 and I tried twice eating dinner before I went, I could hardly workout at all! I do cardio for 30 minutes and weights for 1 hour and I was "dead" during and after. Now I just have complex carb and protein before I go, usually something like a large apple with peanut butter or cheese and crackers. I have much more energy.

Quoting from ravenwolf:

Why do your cardio before weights? Do weights first when you have your strength then cardio right after your workout. You will benefit more this way. You will burn more calories.

Not only that, wolf, but it's safer and more effective. The fatigue from the cardio can lead to poor form or worse, injuries due to you not having the proper focus.

I always do cardio first, but it's just force of habit. I might switch it up soon.

I used to do my cardio first (30 min) then lift. I was getting tired and tried what alot on here suggest.
I switched it to after and what a difference it makes, and now I do a 10 min warm up on a crosstrainer, so it ups my cardio to 40 min.
I won at both ends. Try it out.
