Hello...i am 26 make 5'10" ...weight 77 kgs...totally healthy..have been hitting weights for last 4-5 years..but cardio i.e-jogging or running has been more or less sporadic in nature not consistent...Well my problem is that whenever i jog or try to run i cannot do for more than 2 mins maximum at a stretch..then i need to lower the speed and start walking again before i can increase the speed and jog/run for 1-2 mins.....i feel totally uncomfortable/out of breath/tired.... if i continue for more than 2 mins..and i need to stop ....is that natural???Why is that i feel so and i cannot increase my duration no matter how much i push myself??

hey your probably starting way too fast. when running for cardio its all about pacing yourself. you dont have to sprint. find a pace that you can stay with for a couple of miles. even if it takes you 20 something minute. its a start and running non stop is what gets you heart healthy

You could also try an interval approach to improving your cardio. Plan a run for a specific distance or time (3 miles or 30min, for example) Run for 2 min, walk 2 min, run 2min, walk 2 min....until you reach your total distance/time. Each week, increase your run intervals until you can run the full amount. richy8y's suggestion of pacing yourself is a good one as well. There are many posts regarding this subject, try searchbuddy to find other suggestions as well.
Good Luck!

just keep at it, focus on breathing and do you have music...i went from barely doing a mile when i started to hardly breaking a hard breathe at a mile with music playing...dunno something to take mind off of the task at hand if you concentrate on the pain and feelings your mind gives in hence your body does..also with cardio its ok to getup and scale down just keep at it it will take time i started on my elliptical doing only 3 mins, now i can do 15

You might want to ask your doctor if you keep trying by can't work your way up to running a mile. Otherwise just do as much as you can every day until you get there.

Sounds like you do it all on a treadmill. Start by walking 5 min at a comfortable pace, say 3.5-3.6 mph. The increase the speed so that you can no longer walk but must start jogging (my short legs make that about 4.1-4.2 mph). Then increase speed every 2 min by .1 mph and keep increasing till you feel you can maintain that speed for 5 min. Then drop the speed .2 mph every min until you are back to walking at 3.5 mph for 5 min. You might make if 15-20 min this way. Before you increase the speed, try adding 1 minute each session at your top speed.
You might also want to invest in an inexpensive heart rate monitor. A lot of time, you may be reaching a "speed bump" that's slowing you down whereas, if you push through, your body might accomodate and it will get easier. You may just have to gut it out and push through a couple minutes longer.
If you are recovering quickly after you stop, you definitely should push through. What doesn't hurt you can only make you stronger! Good luck.
