Last week I was doing deadlifts and was in the middle of a break. I was standing right in front of the bar catching my breath when some chump proceeds to slide 2 extra plates onto my bar. I stood there watching in disbelief! I thought to myself, "did I somehow not see him using the bar when I first got in?"; I knew I just saw him doing concentration curls on the other side of the room...
Anyways, he asks if he can work in and I very loudly said you "you might as well work in since you already put your plates on!". This guy had nothing to say, instead he would just walked around slowly, flexing and seemingly getting into everyones way in a effort to gain attention or something. Anyways, when it was time for my to use the bench there were 4 dumbells littered around the bench... I then told him maybe he should clean up his mess before he decides to barge into the next exercise... Again he just stood there.
Jesus! Some of the other guys just kinda looked at me and him but I dont think anyone really understood the whole course of events... I am no gym rat but I have been going there steadily since last March and I just took it very personal in the way he conducted himself. Now I've seen him there each time since so who knows, this A-hole might be there for good... It's just funny that he has nothing to say back... And it's not like I am so intimidating, he's about twice the size of me!

Unfortunately, gym etiquette is not often observed by everyone.

Yeah thats rude. but it doesn't suprise me at all... Id be pretty PO'ed So did he just put the plates on and leave or did he do all of his sets? I think that it happens everywhere. personally im not very social, so if i need to use something and someones on what i want to use, i go and use something else and get back to what i originally wanted later. I really don't like working in with people. It bothered me last week on Saturday I was doing cable pushdowns for tri's and some guy came in and asked if he could work in. I said sure, but i was kinda mad because he didn't need to work in since there were like 4 other cable weights he could have used. Then he ended up followiing this young woman around and he was like 40 it was obvious she was getting upset, but i thought it was great i was laughing on the inside. So Steve instead of getting mad just laugh at their stupidity and thank god your not that dense

He put the plates on and did 1 set and then walked over to the other side of the room and just slowly wandered around... He was just getting in everyones way... I did my next set and waited about 2 minutes and he didnt come back so I took his plates off and finished my next 3 sets. After I bitched at him about his dumbells he then went back to the bar that I used and started up again...
Maybe he felt dumb or who knows, maybe he was just so dumb that he didnt realize what "working in" with someone actually means. I think it is most likely the fact that this guy really was just a flat-out idiot... Seems like nothing he did made any sense to me.
And actually last night somebody asked me about the incident... It's good to know that other people noticed this guys stupidity and did not think I was some grump :)

He probably doesn't even know.. I think its weird that he did a set and never came back. usually when people work in with me they chill at whatever machine were at and BS about the red sox curse or How florida pulled the the world series out just small talk. people make conversation they don't up and leave after one set and look lost. I just think thats very strange,

i, personally, think it is hilarious! i mean that is so rude-the guy has no manners!! but props to you for telling him something b/c i bet no one else does! i think next time you are there with him you should wait till you see him on something and take his bars off when he is done with a set and do it right back!--this is so funny i wish i could watch! hehe ;P

It was rude. Sounds like he is lost. Maybe it was his first time, a gym virgin. Offer to take him by the hand and show him around the gym and explain machines and gym etiquette. Or just puff out your chest when you see him coming and shake your head NO.

LOL, yeah this guy definately wasn't a gym virgin. I work on an Army base and he could just be "passing through". Sometimes people are here for a certain project/reason and then they go back to where they came from. We'll see if he's in today... I'm not one to look for trouble, especially with gov't people but I truly believe this guy is so far beyond A-hole status he just doesn't even have the slightest clue about anything.
