Or does it depends on your overall goals? Im a guy and Im working to tone my muscles (not too much into getting bigger or gain weigh, but more concerned in losing excess fat on my belly. So I'm thinking of joining a gym thats 3.5 miles away. Good idea to bike to the gym. work out an hour or so and then ride back? I heard its not good to mix too much cardio for weight trainers, or do certain things for certain parts of your body,,im confused. so is biking to the gym a good idea?

I think you will be fine - if you are not training heavy and training for mass you shouldn't worry about it too much. The ride there will warm youup for your workout and the ride home can be a little relaxing cool-down.
You may want to ease into it by riding one day the first week, two the next, etc, so your body recovers from the added exercise.
I hope your route isn't like mine - somehow it is uphill both ways! LOL

I think it's a good idea. If you feel this will somewhat force you to do the cardio, then by all means do that. I would suggest that you eat a nutritious post-workout meal to replenish your body after the bike rides and weight lifting.
