I was reading some articles on abcbodybuilding.com not a bad site by the way and i was reading about how to put on mass and shock the body into new growth. there suggestions seemed a bit too much. They were talking about the training of Arnold and Dorian Yates, saying how Arnold use to do 20 sets of biceps and that to grow you need to keep uping the limit. My question is can someone who was not on steroids like these guys handle a workout like that. Would it do more harm than good seeming that the muscles can handle an extremely greater load on steroids. I am at a plateau that i've been at for a while and was thinking of uping all my exercise up a set for a total of 5 but i don't want to go overkill. I was just going to stick to my 4 sets with a pyramid of 8 6 4 2. I haven't been on a mass cycle for about 6 -8 weeks now and i switched to 4 sets about 2 months ago and i've been lifting for 6 months now entering my 7th. I'm just going to lift heavy and eat eat eat! Or should i not pyramid anymore i've been doing the pyramid ever since i started lifting but i always switch up the reps or weight every 3 weeks. Should i get off the pyramid and do something lik 8 4 4 4?

Once you've hit the plateau, it is time to change things up. Unfortunately, everyone is different so you'll probably have to experiment to see what will work for you.
The Arnold/Yates routines are way too much for us average folks not taking Vitamin S. You can try other shock routines or even try some powerlifting methodologies to your new workout. I've tried a lot of variations before finding out which ones worked for me.
Good luck!

I on the contrary think a good shock is necessary at times and quite beneficial with proper rest and nutrition. Some of the shocking methods on ABC are quite good, and sometimes multi type sets like that are just what the doctor ordered. I do these alot. I may take one muscle group per week for instance and just work it to no end insanely. These are not meant to do daily, just periodically. I will admit that yes, arnold did drugs, but you still have to work hard to make gains. I think some of us have become complacent with the shorter sets and longer rest, it is easier, and we have fallen prey to it. Don't neglect these techinques, they are very old school, but with a masters degree.
