Does anyone have any good cardio routines that can be done indoors? I live in the Northeast, and it's far too cold to run outdoors as I like to during the warmer months.
The problem I have is that I live in an apartment which only provides so much room to work in. The ceilings are too low to jump rope, so I'm looking for an alternative. Preferably something in the vein of HIIT, which I hear is pretty effective.

How about doing the stairs? They work great.

Hey, Whats up? u might feel stupid but you don't have to use a jump rope. All you do is act like you are using one

Dorky, I know, but for cardio I DVR the cardio shows on FitTV like In Shape with Sharron Mann, and Kickboxing, and all those. The shows are only about 25 minutes when you cut out commercials, so what I do is the warm up on one, then I do the middle part of 3 so I have about 45 minutes of active cardio, and the cool down of the last DVR'd show. I hope that makes sense. I also have a couple of DVD's that I do for kickboxing and step aerobics which is killer. I hate to run, hate the treadmills and elipticals, etc. I get bored very very easy. I found that I even get bored doing HIIT on the treadmill or bike or whatever. Pathetic I know. I have found the videos to be the most fun and easiest to stick with. And if you need to add extra intensity to the workouts, you can add little hops and jumps in there. Like when they "march in place", I'll pretend like I'm jumping rope (I trip over real jump ropes, oops), it's a harder workout. You can amp up any of those if you try hard enough. Good luck!

Thanks everyone. And to amyksmith, do you have any particular TV shows or DVD's that are really good? I've seen plenty of cardio or kickboxing types, but I don't want to get stuck with a bad one.

I like the step aerobics DVD's that Kathy Frederic does (I'm probably spelling her name wrong). I also like "In Shape" with Sharon Mann. Kathy Frederic also does a show called "Cardio Blast" that is pretty intense and does interval training. If you are an experienced athlete this one would be great, but not recommended for beginners. I also like to catch some of the "All Star Workouts" for fun. I don't seem to get my heart rate up very high with those, so I don't consider it much cardio, more of just a fun activity. They have a variety of workouts from dancing to kickboxing to belly dance and so on. Denise Austin also has a fun dance DVD. it's got 4 or 5 dance workouts and you can pre-set your workout so you mix and match up to 60 minutes worth. It's not a very intense workout, but that's where the extra hops and "jumprope" come in. I always try to stay away from the "fad" DVD's like Tae Bo and Booty Belly Ballet or whatever that thing is. I'm sure they are fine, I just don't do them so can't say. Good luck.

Jumping is BY FAR (for me) the hardest cradio work I have ever done.And can easily be done without a rope and incorporated with a HIIT routine.

Amy gave me a routine that works great indoors and is a good fullbody workout that doesnt involve using alot of equipment.You can check it out in my log if you like.

Tae bo dvd's are really good high intensity workouts, from start to finish. I live in the north east of england and Tae Bo is great for what you want.
