I was looking at men's health website the other day and one of the trainers on there says that u can burn 200 calories through drinking 3-4 litres of ice cold water a day.

check out the link
http://www.menshealth.co.uk/talk/thread.phtml/thread140349/page3/

hopefully it will work. just scroll down a bit and you should see the stuff about how it takes energy to heat ice cold water to body temp.

What do you guys think? could it be a possibilty? drinking it cold?

You burn so few calories from drinking cold water..that you probably burn more walking to the tap to get it..not worth it...

i dont think that would work cause think of it, your body is already at a temp of like 98 degrees i dont think it would take that much to heat it up, cause i personally dont feel cold water sit in my stomach... haha

The book "The New Rules of Lifting," says that this works, since your body has to heat the water before using it, (water is a nice insulator so it does take a fair amount of energy to do this).

200 calories a day seems high though.

Anyone know why this works?

I took anatomy and physiology, and we covered the digestive system. Nothing I read said things have to be a certain temperature to be processed.

I would guess that it just lowers your temperature, and in order to maintain it, your body burns calories, so it'd work with anything not only water.

Water is just nice because A) it doesn't have any calories to begin with, and B, it's resistant to temperature change.

I wonder if the same line of thought could be used to convince my girlfriend to walk around the house naked.

Lots of books say lots of things...this was pretty much disproven quite a long time ago. Nothing new here, thus my short post above.
