I have an argument about the Hypers as how they are taught in the gym by trainers and some others!
They claim of 2 ways to do it as 1 for low back and the other for hams and glutes and I call bull on this because I believe it covers all 3.
What really gets me is they say to do it for low back you need to hunch over and round your upper and lower back.
1st off I call danger on this as I have been taught to always protect my back by never letting it round out.
2nd all the big lifts also claim the same to never round out and if Deads are king of the low back and it's taught not to ever round out as well as the Good Mornings then I call bull on the hunched over round it all out and then take me to the hospital hypers.
I do hypers as I would a Good Morning!
What are your thoughts on this as this really has me never wanting to hire a 24 hr Personal Trainer EVER!

hmmm, maybe the theory is that you want to stretch out the muscles alongside your spine and then recruit them by straightening again - you are tryong to work the spinal muscles on those...as well as low back.
Hyper extensions are very different from the glute/ham raises.

Just lower back and yes that's their theory to stretch the muscles as they round out!
Problem I have as most know by know is since my mother decided to beat the crap out of me for crying when I was a infant I have a real bad lower back with a bulging disc and possible 2!
So for me rounding out is out of the question!
I'll stick with Dead's as I only use the Hyper's as a cool down from Squats.
Yeah I know they are different from glute/ham raises but my point is the Hypers hit all 3 and they claim it don't!
I'll just stay far away from anything that claims rounding of the back is good lol!

I think you have to work within your abilities...going too high can be just as detrimental as rounding... and you aren't rounding under a load, so I am not sure it is as dangerous, unless you have back issues, which you do....you know what you should and shouldn't do.
A sfar as your Mom - I didn't know that.I am sorry that you got a shit sandwich so early in life. I am glad you rose above it :) You seem like a decent person:)

Thanks Amy and your correct as I finally caved in to realize I can't barbell squat as my bench is higher then my squat.
So what I do is split my cycle with deadlifts and the other half I take a heavy dumbbell just a single lay it were I grab the handle with both hand and so my squats.
I get funny looks when I do stuff like that but then again it's just Guido and Luigi looking so I can care less!
