im in the same situ.. im one of those persons who doesnt enjoy taking rests. however, they are beneficial, esp. when switching programs, or if you've had a very intense week. taking a week off from weights over month or month and a half isnt going to kill you, actually might improve your performance. you can stick with the cardio if you feel you need something to do, but remember, rest builds muscle.

I just finished my 8 week FT program and it worked out perfectly that my wife was going out of town on business and I was playing single dad for the week, so I took the week of. Still got a chance to do a short hike in the middle of the week, but the week off has served me well as I'm very rested and ready to hit the gym hard on Monday morning. After 4 months this is the first full week break I've taken, so I watched my diet very closely and am charged up and ready to see what I can do in the next 4 months.

Rest is essential....for a variety of reasons. Probably the most important aside from needed downtime is that the muscle can keep up with your pushing it to new limits. The tendons, joints, ligaments, connective tissue on the other hand cannot. This is where tendonitis, torn ligaments, etc. come into play. The muscle gets stronger while the connective tissue lags.
